Car: RSP, 1990.

I am replacing the exhaust and original inlet/exhaust manifold casting

It has no catalytic converter.

I found a small outlet on the manifold casting connected to the airbox (original RSP one)

I guess this is some emission control device to allow more air in on over run. Haynes is unhelpful.

The Minispares Inlet manifold I am planning to fit  has no take off there , nor does the Maniflow one.

What is it?

Is it OK to leave it disconnected?

The standard air cleaner housing has a temperature sensor inside it.  This should have two vacuum pipes connected to it.  One goes to the inlet manifold and the other goes to the hot/cold air flap in the air cleaner snorkel.

It allows warm air from the exhaust manifold into the air cleaner when the air temperature is cold to assist fuel vapourisation and prevent carburettor icing and allows cold air in at other times.  Under full throttle conditions vacuum is lost so the flap reverts to a cold air intake which is best for power.

If it is fitted and working there is no disadvantage to having it and it should help a little with fuel efficiency and general running in cold conditions e.g. you can put the choke in slightly earlier than you could without it.

Thank you, UBFIM

The new manifold does not have the small pipe.

I like the idea of fuel efficiency.

I need a think, but thank you again

Good Idea. I think I might have one in a box somewhere!
