Hi mini people

My son and I are restoring our first mini. It’s a1992 British open classic.
I have recently been cutting out the rot in the floor pan and in doing so I have removed the floor covering on the inside of the car in the places worked on.
This covering looks like a black tar that has gone solid. It must have done a good job because thankfully there isn’t to much rust. I used a wire brush fitting on an angle grinder to remove it

My question is What is the covering?
Is it still available to replace.
I have tried to include some images.
Thanks for your help in advance.

It's applied as an anti-vibration paste rather than rust prevention coating, although it does do both.

I don't know if you will find the tar based products available anymore and today there are many better options.

Remove all of it if you have not done so. It weighs quite a bit so some weight saving done. Then buy something like Silentcoat or similar.

Lots of products out there.

I removed it all on a rally car I built and it weighed something like 15 kg.

This is the stuff I use. Flexible to apply (I used a heat gun to mold it into the floor pressings) and sets like the the original deadening
