Was Weslake directly involved?
The bit about swapping bits from oldest to newest surely isn't true.

Was Weslake directly involved?
Yes, on the head for the original A series engine (1951 803cc Austin A30).

Tappets, push rods, rocker cover and crank pulley bolt are the same; pressure relief, engine mountings, dip stick and generator tensioner probably are, but head, block, gear box, starter, alternator, clutch, crank rods and pistons, oil pump & cam, timing chain, all the gears, drive couplings, no bypass water pump, ignition, carb and fuel pump are all different.

It is pedantry, but his statement was what could be swapped rather than what has changed. I'm struggling to think of much other than the essential differences between small bore and large bore blocks.
Point taken.
But presumably the word "components" refers to all the bits that go into the engine and gearbox, so gear clusters can't be swapped without the correct casing, ditto drop gear and verto clutch etc:, down to nuts and bolts.
