Hi, just bought a minnow fish 1 1/4" carb, objective being better mpg from our 850 as part of a wider eco focused project I'm running. Better torque and power from this carb too.

According to the original designer it works better as a downdraught although after considering your helpful replies on this thread I'll be running as sidedraught - does anyone have an inlet manifold adaptor from HS2 to fit onto my existing minispares inlet ??

(We've run through various downdraft manifolds and I'm erring away from these)

Hope this is going to be an interesting project

As I remember, A Reece Fish was a straight bolt off bolt on replacement for an SU.

Hi it's an original minnow fish as opposed to the Reece fish - respective designers fell out with each other. Interesting read on the whole thing here

By the way the bolt holes are aligned vertically, not the diagonal arrangement as per SU carb. Hope it's direct fit but very much doubt it

1 1/4" SU's have a vertical bolt pattern.
1 1/2" hs4's are diagonal.

I remember back in the 60s one of the guys I ran about with and did some work for!

ran an 850cc Hillclimb/ sprint Mini with a Minnow fish Carb, if memory serves me

right it was a bit of a pain to setup.

I never met Bob Henderson but new quite a few people whom did and his Lochgilphead

base.

As far as manifold goes possible an Austin A30

Thanks both for info on hole alignment/possible manifold -A30 is downdraught so looking good IF it will clear my lcb

Morris Minors have HS2's so could be a possibility but obviously side draught

A30/35 Zenith inlet is bolted to exhaust manifold so unlikely to work with lcb ... some sort of hot spot

The A30 inlet is rather small bore with sharp angles.

If I remember correctly, it was quite a few years ago :shy:  we used the carb in a side draught orientation!

I suggested the A30 as a  possible because its down draught !

Quite enjoyed that link, thanks, but the story, while likely in an overall way, is accurate, it doesn't 'add up'.

Going by the piccy in the link it looks like it'd be a nice diy project to make one, as long as you can get some tube bent to the right radius.

Could you adapt an SPi manifold to suit

Because of the constricted height, a downdraft inlet will effectively have two elbows in 3 dimensions for the gas to flow through, where as a sidedraft could have a pair of shallow S's in 2 dimensions.
