Hi All,

I'm about to start tackling the front end and could do with some advice on which order to change the panels. Below is a list of what I'm changing the my current 'plan'

Inner wing R & L

Toe-board

Bulk head repair panel (below x member) L & R

outer wing L & R

Front panel

Scuttle.

I've current got the got the original panels fitted apart from the outer wings and front panel.

sooooo, I'm thinking

Cut out the old toe-board and replace, welding to the floor and bolted to the internal bracing (front sub points)

Remove the old inner wings (R&L) and scuttle.

repair the bulk head

weld the toeboard to bulkhead

fit the inner wing

Fit scuttle

fit front panel

fit outer wings

any suggestions / issues with the plan??

thanks

Chris

after the toeboard, bulkhead and inner wings are in place, but before you start welding the front end up, it's worth doing a trial fit of everything with the bonnet fitted to try and get the panel gaps as good as you can

Thanks, is that before I’ve welded the inner wings too?

i'm not entirely sure, but i guess it couldn't do any harm to just tack the inner wings in place before trial fitting the rest of the front end.

if it turned out the inner wings did need some adjustment then you'd only have a few tacks to undo.

I think I'd knock up some references to locate the bonnet so you can use it to locate the other panels. It could be as simple as some hardboard spacers in the gutter and a couple of wooden props for the front bolted to the subframe. I wouldn't weld anything permanently until everything was on - unless fitting the next panel resulted in lack of access.

Doing this ourselves at the moment but with a full bulkhead panel wich turned out to be twisted in transit so another turned up today
Then we are chopping the bulkhead out above the bulkhead x member to replace with a box as per miglia we found self tapping screws are great for pull ing in everything nice and tight and only a 3mm hole to weld after
