Good afternoon,

I have a Mini 998 auto, year 1990. I have changed the plugs, dizzy cap, points, coil, leads. I am getting a good spark at the plug and I have plenty of fuel but the car just will not turn over, it tries but just doesn't start. Can anybody suggest anything else I can try?

Regards,

Barry

Are the spark plugs wet with fuel after a few tries?

Ok, so if you have fuel on the plugs, a spark and compression, it 'must' be something ukcooper mentions.
A first-try thing for me would be wildy out timing. Try moving the dizzy while someone cranks it over and see if it coughs.

Elementary - change the fuel/petrol. Any vehicle that had stood for longer than 6 months will have suspect fuel.

when you say wont turn over do you mean the starter doesnt turn? do you have an auto inhibitor switch?

Try drain the tank or put a little fresh fuel in the carb ....

thanks for all the advice. I am going to drain the tank and clean out the carb and start from scratch. i am rushing it a bit and have not been looking at it as a long term project as I originally planned. thanks again.
