Spi Idle

Best Answer FlyingScot , 07 July 2019 - 05:31 PM

On my 1995 spi the water temperature gauge was not working and I noticed the car was running a bit rich. Swapped over the water temperature sensor and whilst I was in there I swapped out the the fuel trap and the vacuum lines.

Fired the car up and wow, it was noticably quieter, no soot getting kicked out of the exhaust, well just the residual stuff that was there.

What I did notice those was the car idling at approx 900rpm and it would then drop down to 800rpm then sort itself out. It's not constant or aggressive when it does it.

Is this just the car sorting itself out and self regulating? Should I be worried? I haven't had the car out yet this was just in the garage.

Thanks

Sounds normal....

Did your temp guage start to work?

On mine (94 SPi) I changed the inlet manifold because the water pipes where blocked/corroded badly and that made a massive difference to mine on idle and general running.

Yeah that's working now, it all seems okay apart from revs moving a little but just didn't know if it was normal?
