New Timing Gear Tight On Crank?
Posted 13 July 2019 - 11:16 AM
This may have been asked before, but I recently purchased a duplex set for my 1330. The gear fitting onto the crank is very tight. I've tried using some grinding paste on the mating surface to smooth it a little bit it's still very tight. Is this common and I need to keep going, or is there something else I should be doing?
Thanks in advance.

Try it without the woodruff and have a look at the keyways for burrs or bruising. Also the shoulders of the machined faces might want breaking with a touch of chamfering.

Use emery tape, the gear must slide on without any force. Same applies to the gear on the cam shaft.

Cheers guys, that's tomorrows task sorted then. I'll give each of the above a go

As the other guys have suggested in regard to the emery - you don't want to reduce the crank nose size.
Many are too tight out of the box, I like to get them a firm fit, that's just too tight to move with the fingers, but only just.
