Metro 998 Engine Won't Start

Hi Guys,

 

I bought a metro engine and rebuilt it over the month new seals bearings etc etc.

 

The engine turn over smoothly and I have ignition on all 4 spark plugs for some reason it won't go

 

My only hunch is I have rebuilt the HIF 38 myself and feel as though I made a mistake somewhere and it is not pulling fuel. I was not sure on how the choke assembly goes in :/

 

Here is a point by point description

 

  • All spark plugs have spark
  • The HIF float Bowl is full of petrol and not overflowing
  • HIF Piston moves freely up and down
  • When I crank it i can here the HIF piston go up and down so it is sucking air
  • fresh petrol poured in
  • changed to electric fuel pump that is pumping petrol ok

anybody has any insight to what i did wrong maybe .

How old is the fuel You are using? Are you sure it's rich enough?

these where the old faults in the days gone by

 

12v to coil feed or Wong coil??????????????????

 

wong needle think its a was  BDL/hif44?? aaa hif38 carb

 

firing ordered is not 1.3.4.2 but 1.4.3.2. as far as i remmember

Try startpilot spray. Of it doesnt start your timing is out.

after trying to start, are the spark plugs wet or dry ?

 

after rebuilding the engine, are you sure the timing is right ?

- Put in Fresh fuel so that can't be the issue

- my current firing order is clockwise 1 3 4 2

- The Spark Plugs are dry it like it no pulling fuel

Check to see what needle you have fitted, then try pouring some fuel down the carb mouth, if it fires check your pump, make fuel richer then make sure the choke works

Shouldn’t it be counter clockwise on the dizzy?

1342 anti clockwise

So 4 3 2 1

Set the dizzy so the rotor arm is pointing to #1 cylinder when at tdc

cylinder 1 firing at TDC on the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke ?

Seems to be a timing issues as managed to run it for 4 seconds.
