Hi long time since I got back to working on my engine, due to illness and having it sent away for a Keith Calver tune  just confused on where the thermostat fits (SPI head) does it go in the sandwich plate or in the head as the sandwich plate has a recess to let it sit in ?? secondly as this engine is now a carb has anyone fitted a COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENDER SENSOR

It goes in the sandwich plate but for carb use might be a different story.

Carb conversion uses the same heater and thermostat set up, just the pre 1990 bottom hose... works well

On my 1994 carb car the thermostat sits in the recess of the sandwich plate i.e at the top.
