Hi All,

I am of the view that if someone wants to really nick the car, they will but what I am after is recommendations of basic alarms as at least a deterrent?

Any budget ones out there that dont go off in the middle of the night :)

I'm not after one that interfaces with central locking, just maybe immobilises, voltage drop sensor and flashing LED

Cheers

Andrew

Hi Rio,

I actually prefer a more visual deterrent when it comes to defending your car, so always use a Disklock.  It's a steering wheel lock that completely covers the steering wheel and is extremely secure, much more so than any alarm.

However, that said, I would recommend these guys for electronic security-

They do basic alarms and immobilisers up to really hi-tech stuff and it's all upgradeable/ compatible with their other products.  You also get a UK phone number for support, unlike most Chinese imported stuff.  I have no affiliation with them, I'm just a previous customer.

a reversing buzzer wired in with interior light (with relay & fuse)

just enough to make them think twice , if fitted inside the car -

not enough to wake the neighbours - but enough for you to be alerted

sadly alarms are widely ignored now a days , false alarms have earned them a bad rep

I got a Disklock and Cobra G193, never been touched (touch wood) in my car park here. Had them both for 5 years, the car would have been long gone without them, I’m convinced of that.

As has previously been mentioned  for a visual deterrent I have a disklok,  I also have a battery isolator with removable link, a fuel pump cut out switch and have a klaxon wired in to the ignition which will sound if the hidden switch is not turned off. There is also a separate starter button.

I.would agree that if someone is determined to steal the car they will, however all you can do is put as many obstacles or devices in there way to prevent it

Many years back, after several attempts were made to Nick my mini off the street, I wired the horn up via the door light switch.
As I recall, I would pop the bonnet and disconnect it before opening the door myself.

It only went off once so must have been the same ******* who kept trying.
It was never going to go anywhere as I used to take off all the HT leads and put them in the kitchen drawer.
I was sick of waking up to a damaged door and column shroud and a flat battery.

a hidden starter button

with the original wired to an internal horn is another trick
