HI, I'm the new one. :-)

44 years old, for 22 years a mini is part of our family. At the moment it's a Mini Van from 1968.

The mini has got a built up engine identical to the MG Metro engine.

  • Engine size: 1293cc
  • roller tip rocker 1.5 ratio
  • modified cylindre head with
  • Valves: 36mm x 30mm
  • compression: 10,2 : 1
  • Distributor: Swiftune 59D non vac
  • cam shaft: kent cam 266
  • fuel: 98 octane

From a friend of mine I bought the Swiftune distributor.

The engine is running but I'm not sure about the exact ignition curve (of the 16 possibilities). I already asked at swiftunes, they recommend starting with the large bore road and track day curves first. But I'm afraid of destroying something..

My favorite curve would be number #11... and I'm looking for a curve similar to aldon yellow.

I also already searched through the forum, but still am not sure which one to take...

Would be great if you could help me, please tell me, if I have to deliver further details..

:gimme:

See you at the IMM.

My guess would be curve 13 or 14, but dialled in at 8 degrees at idle with the vacuum disconnected. Then reconnect once set

Would suggest the following:

- about 13 degrees static advance

- about 23 degrees advance by 1250rpm

- max 33 degrees total advance by 3000rpm

this is with Maniflow freeflow and RC40 twin box exhaust system

Thank you for the fast answers!

@ACDodd: I'll try out curve 13 and 14. The Swiftune installation guide said the dynamic adjustment should be set at 10 degrees. Should I set it on your advice (with 8 degrees) nevertheless?

My distributor doesn't have a vacuum..

While searching through the internet I found a timing curve supposedly from an aldon yellow, which confused me completely:

1000 - 2°

1500 - 8°

2000 - 17°

2500 - 20°

3000 - 22°

3500 - 24°

4000 - 25°

4500 - 27°

above 5000 - 28°

Are these dates right, I thought they'd correspond with a different curve.

Many questions, sorry, but I'm afraid to crash something.  >_<  And thanks once more.

I said 8 for a reason, so yes set it at that.

My engine is close to yours but a 1360 and I have my Swiftune set at #15, 10 degrees at idle. Runs very well. Experiment a little to find the best for your application, play with the mixture-you will find what works best.
