One Carb Or Two?

All, a question for the porridge beards out there. Someone will know the answer. When you look at the Block, 1275 or 998 it doesn't seem to matter, the water pump is held on by 4 bolts, and two doules.
My question is right at the bottom of the block face where the pump mounts to the block there is another hole, which is not douled or takes a bolt. What the hell is it for ?

The hole I am referring to is the one next to the bottom left hand doule. The hole is just to the right of the doule.

Bad fingering dowel might be better.... and drainage for what.. the Gasket and pump cover that hole.. and once the pump is off the impeller hole is big enough to drain the water out.. Pic is bad its the only one I could find on the net that showed the hole I was talking about most pics don't how it

Hmmm just opened that pic, it wasn't that small (honest) when I viewed it on my PC.. not sure why the "site" shrunk it to that size. I will see if I can find a better pic

it's one end of an oil gallery that runs the full length of the block (..to feed the main bearings?) - it should have a plug in it, so not a 'hole' as such

How could it be for oil - didn't you know that oil floats on water 
It is a drain hole for the water pump chamber

Hi Rorf, you are spot on, that's the hole I am talking about .. the one you circled.. must admit never noticed it before til my water pump started leaking last night which may put the "end" to my IMM.. checked some old 998 and 1275 blocks I have and its on them all though I never noticed it before. and my pump was leaking at the bottom via the gasket where that hole is.
