Hello,

I am wondering if a A series pinion crownwheel set will fit on an A+ mainshaft?  About to offer it to a friend but do not know if it will fit.

Thanks,

Paul

Pretty sure it will, but by all means wait for a second opinion from someone that's actually done it.

As pairs yes, they interchange.

Have you got a big break-away torque wrench ?

If you use one that you can knock the square drive through, screw it up to its max and use it in reverse;  as it breaks away, it acts like an impulse wrench.

Brilliant thanks Moke and Deadsquare. Glad an A series fits. I'll give the torque wrench a go. My breaker bar just bends

Just checking, which gears are you locking up? Should be 1 and 4.

Rattle guns are also good for undoing very tight nuts.

They will go in but make sure both are either A+ or pre A. You can’t mix them as you’ll not get the diff cover back on.

Thanks for the advice.  There's a 3.44 A+ on there at the moment but my mate wants to do rallying and his mates are telling him 3.4 is too high.  I have an A series 3.6 crownwheel and pinion but until I get the main nut off I cannot try it.  Need a big, heavy german car to sit on it!

If it’s a rally specific car then 3.4 is too high. Cooperman will put you straight, but I’d be at 3.76 or even lower, 4.1 possibly.

I just used a long piece of bar, and a bolt through the gearbox case. Jack handle extension on the socket on the pinion nut and it comes away pretty easily
