Hi

Anyone have experience of the Overheating Buzzer going off on there Japanese Mini and what they did?  Is there a way to take this out of the loop? Appreciate any info.

Cheers Fluff

Might be worth doing a search, I'm sure this was discussed pretty recently.

Many thanks for the info.  Have been under my mini and because it has a custom exhaust, the last owner did not fit the original pipe connecting the Cat to the back box, which should have a connection to fit Cat overheating sensor.  As this was not fitted the sensor has been wired up.

It would seem the buzzer alarm can just be by passed as it is not connected to ECU. It just seems it is an alarm which is not fitted to UK Mini's ;-(

I am going to see that the Mini passes emissions tests, if not will put a standard/UK exhaust and refit overheating sensor.  I have found a contact in Japan where I can get a new overheating sensor, if I need one.

The cat overheat sensor and parts are a requirement for the Japan market only and has nothing to do with fuelling or emissions, it is simply there as a warning that the cat is overheating and that means something is wrong (the cat is busted or the car is doing something else wrong). A overheating catalytic converter is a rare thing!

If you’re outside Japan you can just disconnect the cat overheat alarm (behind your wooden dash) and all will be fine with your Mini. Far cheaper to do that than source a Japan spec exhaust with the cat overheating sensor connection.

My car came in from Japan with a Valtain exhaust with the sensor bung in it. Replaced the exhaust with a Maniflow and just removed the sensor no issue.

Had the dash out so removed mine a few weekends ago. Images for reference (note that I had cut the sensor off)
