R.6.1.Any means of identification fixed for theCompetition must be removed when a Competitorretires, is disqualified from, or completes the event.

so it part of the rules you have to remove them, ive driven home from most events forgetting to remove them, but also the car is usually that dirty you cant read them anyway!

But the MSUK rules have no legal standing and certainly couldn’t be applied to someone who doesn’t hold an MSUK membership card, sorry ‘licence’.

Which is why real competitors would never have numbers on their doors whilst not competing, leaving only 'boy racers' with door numbers.

I have to say that if |I have put my rally car off the road and done a bit of body damage, after deciding that, in the middle of no-where, that I am not able to continue, the last thing I have on my mind is removing the numbers and/or rally plates, or taping them over. I would drive back to the start/finish, assuming I could get the car going, and put it on its trailer and take it home.

The idea of driving about with numbers and/or rally plates on just for show is an anathema to true competitors.

i quoted from the 2019 blue book

page 297its still there

Appears it has only been removed for sprints and hillclimbs, which is the only section I read. No need to remove/cover after these events which seems odd!

i wonder if its because on a sprint/hill climb  they are all on one venue, where as a rally you can go on the road even on single venue rallies like weston park.

What about rally cars travelling on the road between special stages?

Petty sure they dont remove or cover up their numbers, actually I know they dont, seen plenty.

that is because you are competing, you have to have the numbers. Like on the road rallies i  do, i have to have the numbers displayed.

My car also is insured with dave auden insurance, both on event and off event. Its £40 more a year to have rally insurance too. Some people pay on the night which can be like £15-20... on event im only covered 3rd party.

From a "road legal" stand point numbers on doors or bonnets are perfectly legal, it's only if you were competing in some form of rally or road race when MSA or other bodies  rules and regulations apply that something might be done.

I think the OP is not a race competitor and just wants to cover some damaged paintwork.

I think I would rather have a bit of visible body damage than look like a 'boy racer' with numbers on the doors for no reason.
