picked up a couple from Mini spares at IMM as my current one was looking a bit past its best after 20 odd years and the carbs and exhaust being off more than once.

well these new ones are crap. onetime use only and they separate from the metal core (that the old ones did not have)

so does anyone know of any quality manifold gaskets that don't fall to bits after a few minutes  of running?

I am guessing that this is what I bought this time. and it aint the same as I bought last time.

Old one is back on now.

Nick, I've always sworn by the original MPi gaskets. I've had my manifolds off a few times and it's always resealed. There are a lot of cheaper quality mpi ones, but the x-part one is good.

I used this one, although it says for fuel injection, but it's been fine on a standard engine, as I checked with MS and the forum, not sure about enlarged ports tough.

I use the  Bullmotif (C-AHT381) large port gasket and had no problems with it.

That's the MPi one I recommended above. Ports are too big on his head for this gasket.

That's the same one he bought originally. I had it too and it blew.

Nicklouse said he bought from Minispares not Bullmotif. Minie's been on and off at least twice and still good.

Both the same part, same supplier.

I buy the large port one from minispares, and then have to cut out a little extra on some ports - race head  - i affix with a silver anti seize paste ( it might be copper?  - the one with higher temperature settings).  Last one i only got two fittings, the one previous to that about 5-6 fittings.. Two theories in play.

1. The antiseize helps the black card type layer pull away still intact -

2. The antiseize fills in the gaps to get a good seal on multiple uses.

Trimming the gasket is tricky-  i use a mini dremel type tool to try and avoid ripping the black card

NOTE:  No engines fires to date.  Readers use your own judgement .

like that will have to shelve it for later as the old one is on and working fine and will most likely be fine for some time to come but aleast i still have one of these big bore ones as a spare. will have to see is i can find any more of these old comp ones. they seemed to have a graphite like feel/finish that allowed multiple uses. the new one was only run up to temp (circa 3 mins) and was then trash.

I use Swiftune large port gaskets and Minispares std ones.
Why would anyone reuse a gasket???
