I'm looking at a 1972 morris mini 1000, but the engine number both in the V5 and on the block shows 328455, which is not consistent with the regular engine numbering.

Apart from this, the engime seems to be stock, no mods either on the engine or car itself.

Any ideas if this is a proper number ?

Thanks.

if it’s just numbers, probably just an engine builders random number, unusual not to have full number, is it a full width engine plate, or has it been cut? Photo would be helpful. At least it matches v5. Someone will hopefully chime in with what the engine number should be no doubt.

Is that a gold seal engine (or silver seal)? They had various numbering systems

what ever that engine plate is, it is not factory, quite telling as the numbers are stamped IN, rather than stamped from behind, and therefore raised letters like the factory ones.
