Mk1 Project

The whole idea for the car is a sleeper look hence me wanting to keep the magic wand type gear stick, I'm going to keep the single pod speedo with just minimal additional gauges ( oil pressure/water temp combined type) hidden but bright oil pressure LED light etc. Inside the only change will be to fit a pair of AC Cobra style seats trimmed in the original colour material if possible, I even plan to cut down to a smaller diameter an original steering wheel with a fatter rim. Externally the car will run 4.5 Cooper S rims with hub caps and 145/80 tyres so no flares are needed.
The engine/box combo will give me a car which can cruise nicely at modern motorway speeds and still have good excelleration due to the increased torque/bhp plus being fully electronic should be reliable.
What's not to like

Love your plans for this car! Have you considered sourcing an SPQR remote shifter, since a magic wand would be a bit floppy with all the power gains of the 16v head conversion. I'm not sure how you could use a Cooper S remote selector, but that would be a nice option too.
Good luck with the project, it sounds like a lot of fun.

I did think about the SPQR conversion but I like the strength of the A+box, when Moke Spider posted the photos of the shortened rods on the rod change box allowing the shifter to work on a mk1 floor pan and use a long type shift lever that was the game changer

Apart from the fact that it's your car to do with as you see fit, I'm pretty sure I saw that you were using a different engine as a basis for your modifications so I can't see why anyone is getting upset. No doubt you will keep the (original?)one for re-instatement should you decide to go back to standard. My '89 City E currently bears no resemblance to the original car but it wouldn't take much to convert it back - not sure why I'd want to though!
Nice car but I think you are brave posting a picture of a modified car
