Been trying to track down a leak.

Took my water pump out and noticed this hole. What does it do? there is one on the other side.

Looks like water is coming out of it so dont see the point in it?

Any help much appreciated.

That is an oil hole.

If water is coming out, it means either the rubber bellows have perished that shield the spring pressing on the carbon seal, or that the carbon seal has worn out.

Either way, a new water pump is your simplest solution, as dismantling a water pump is not easy.

Ummmm,,,,, long ago that was an Oil Hole but these days, the bearing assembly is pre-greased and sealed for life.

The hole is still there and acts as a 'tell tale' to let you know that the seal has failed and to stop water from getting in to the bearing.
