When I bought my (1962) mini it had a 998 engine fitted instead of the original 850, but there is no engine number. Nor is there a number recorded in the registration document. Is there any way of having an engine number allocated, or is it legal to buy a 998 block and swap numbers? Very grateful for any advice.

Regards

Mike

Make your own up. They mean nothing other than what left the factory.

If you get a heritage certificate you will have the original numbers

The DVLA can get arsey and want a receipt for your  'new'  engine
