Should be fine if you put the speaker in a proper enclosure of the appropriate size.

A sound engineer friend of mine once said that it takes twenty feet (not sure of exact measurement) or so for bass frequencies to resolve. Not totally sure I understand but the point he was making was subs in cars never work very well as you're too close to them and it's why people a little way from the vehicle complain it's too loud. So for this reason, in a car I say put them as far from you as possible.

Generally sounds are only absorbed or reflected by something atleast the size of their wavelength. Hence why you can hear the bass from next door's boombox but not the treble.
So yeah, sub placement in a bus isnt too important, nevermind a Mini!

Subs position is not critical. But I would have it in the cabin rather than the boot.
Why?

I’m planning on fitting a Sub speaker in the the floor on my boot (cone in the spare wheel recess). But I’ve read a few comments on how ineffective the Sub sounds when placed here, has anyone else fitted it here? I’ve got plenty of speakers in the car interior itself, so I’m thinking unless the bass travels in the the car, is there a point in installing the Sub like this?
Absolutely fine as long as you build a decent box to the specs of the speaker. But make you you use plenty of sound deadening, the boot floor resonates like a *******!

If mounting it on the boot floor isn’t a good location
It would be a perfectly good location!
