So, what is the spec for your competition car ?

It's my brother's, I don't have the exact spec it's a Coopers S, it's running a Weber 45, large valve head, it's been bored out, omega pistons, 1.5 roller rockers Kent 298SP Cam, (the very same cam that Keith Calver can't get running properly https://www.calverst...-pros-and-cons/) non noisy MED straight cut drop gears (yes they do exist), Swiftune straight cut gears, Quaife ATB, Aldon Red dizzy.

This is how it goes..

All work to the car including the engine and gearbox build was done by my brother and this is without any setup on a rolling road (as we've only just got a rolling road over here).

Note Tony's 'power steering' AKA a 14" wheel :-)

Some people used to comment that we always raced with a standard steering wheel, but we did it because it was what we drove with every day.

Is there a set up that fits under a round nose?

I think this answers the original question

I used to use Photobucket myself but as you are experiencing it's a bit of the pain in the rear orifice these days!  I've just been told Flickr may be a better option.

Even from the blurry picture it looks like a nice setup.  What's the spec out of interest?

Also would you mind telling me what the jetting emulsion tubes etc of your carbs are, we've only just got a rolling road over here on the Isle of Man but the operator is only an injection specialist.  I'm still playing with mine to try and get it right so your settings may well help me go in the right direction.

Also do you not run an air filter?  I got ITG to make one up for me.  They were really helpful and it still all fits under the bonnet.

I will try attaching the photo directly, here goes!

Attached File  Head7.jpg   76.19K   9 downloads

EDIT: that seems to have worked.

The spec: I will have to look out the weber jet set up, I have a note of it somewhere. Will post here soon.

Yes Tony uses the olde bus steering wheel.  I've just measured it and it's 15.5"! He's had a few comments (usually taking the mick) but he finds he has much better control with the big wheel (and usually wins).  I've just got a bigger dark wood Moto-Lita 14" wheel replacing the 11.5" Momo wheel I had.  Whilst the Momo is a really nice wheel, a small input makes a big difference on the road and the bigger wheel is just a nicer drive in my opinion.

Yes that's better!  And yes it looks very nice not that I'm biased (I approve of the matching red shiny bits) :-)

Thanks, that's really appreciated.  One thing I have just got and need to plumb in is a fuel pressure regulator that I'm going to set at 3.5 PSI.  The fuel pump I've got outputs 6.5-7 PSI so this may also be a source of some of my issues.

Thanks again.

Here is the engine spec:

1275 A series bored +40

MiniSport 7 port head

Inlets 37mm

Exhausts 31mm

Plugs NGKPMR7A

Roller tip rockers 1.5 ratio

Camshaft – Piper 285

Vernier twin row timing gear

Maniflow large bore LCB

Twin 40DCOE Webers

very short trumpets

pump jet 35

emulsion tube f11

main jet 115

idle jet 45 f9

air corrector 200

On the rolling road it made 105BHP at the road wheels (flywheel BHP ???).

It's very tractable, pulls away from 30MPH in top gear (on a 3.4 diff).

Brilliant!  Thank you very much for that.  It's really appreciated!

Do you know what size chokes you are running.  I'm running 30's.

I've got the AKM 7 port head.  Which Minisport bought the rights to so basically I've got the same head.  I run a Swiftune SW10 cam which upon checking the specs is very similar to the Piper 285.

I'm not far off what you are at.  I'm running 115 main jets and 45f9 idle jets although I'm running f16 emulsion tubes but I do have a set of f11 emulsion tubes.

105bhp is a nice amount.  I found the 7 port head will allow you to run a wilder cam and tame the low end down so it doesn't surprise me that yours is very tractable, mine pulls well from low down which is always nice.

Who did you use for the rolling road/setup of the carbs?  I really should get my backside across and get the webers tweaked by an olde pro.

Thanks again.

The Webers are 40 dcoe 151 which I think come with the 30mm chokes fitted.

There a several rolling roads in central Scotland but none of them keep a selection of Weber jets so I go down to Preston to these guys:-  www.pro-tecmotorsport.com/

This thread is making me want a 7 port even more, and I’ve got a sw10 I took out for a 276 to make my 5 porter less cammy.. got me thinking aha.
