Clogged up turbo veins can cause overboost issues, if the cars smoking at low-mid and then overboosting on full throttle it could be that.

Another possibility is a damaged turbo actuator or control solenoid/

Usually clogged turbo veins mean you need the turbo rebuilding, but you might get lucky with a bottle of cleaner in the fuel tank and a good spanking down the motorway.

Thanks for your ideas
Yesterday I replaced the pressure sensor on the dpf, took it for a spin and all seemed well, no fault codes.

Also used some Würth diesel system cleaner.

Another ongoing issue I tried to solve is that I have an oil leak from the turbo.. the wastegate is converted in oil.. I assumed this was from the oil return pipe, but after struggling to get the heat shields off the return pipe was fine...
How else would I end up with oil all over the wastegate... the turbo was replaced less than 10k ago. Has no play in the shaft and the oil supply is clearly good..
Any final tips before I take it to a garage??

Thanks

Checked the vac pipe to the actuator isn't split or anything?

Incidentally that will cause boosting issues as well.

I haven’t specifically checked this but will.
I took it into a garage today for the oil leak to get a professional opinion, they tightened a few bits but said nothing is obvious. Suggested removing the Turbo and replacing oil seals etc...
Overall the car runs well. So maybe on a dry day I’ll tackle removing the turbo but don’t fancy causing myself extra problems

If the turbo was recently replaced it will have new oil seals, the car came with that documentation right?  Unless for some reason they put a used turbo on?

If the oil seals are duff then it should be covered under warranty, but it's abit unlikely unless someone cocked up the job.

Can you get some pictures of it?

I’ve tried to get some photos
This is after I had cleaned it all up and gone for a 5 mile drive

As a follow up.. will post photos if anyone’s interested
Today I removed the turbo, turns out you have to take the bumper off and loosen the whole front end to gain access!!!
Changed the gasket on the oil return pipe, cleaned the oil feed pipe etc etc
Went for a quick drive and so far seems to be leak free. Although the outside temperature gauge now says -40c so I think I missed a plug behind the bumper ?

One bizarre thing... is it possible for the wastegate to fill with oil? I cleaned everything up and was happy, checked the wastegate moved and as I did more thick black oil seemed to appear from the part id just cleaned... as in quite a significant amount... all cleaned now so we will see

Are you talking about the wastegate or the turbo actuator?

The wastegaste is integral to the turbo, little more than a door/flap in the exhaust housing, I'd be worried if it was full of oil.

The actuator controls the movement of the wastegate (and through that the level of turbo boost), it looks (sorta) like this:

If the actuator is full and/or leaking oil I'd imagine the diaphragm has ruptured, if the diaphragm has ruptured you won't be able to control or maintain boost properly.

Sorry for slow reply. Yes that was the thing filled with oil.. plenty of brake cleaner and a kept pumping the little valve and it seemed to clear. I think the diaphragm might be ok as if I push the valve in then put my thumb over the vacuum hose it holds itself until I take my thumb off (hope that makes sense)
