Hi,

I’m due to collect my new MSE 4 cylinder head from minispares tomorrow with a set of 1.5 high lift rockers.
Any idea on torque/ bhp increase on below spec please ?

So long as you set the compression ratio to around 10:1 or slightly higher and run on 98 ron petrol, you will get a reasonable gain.

However, the gains will be limited by virtue of the fact that you are retaining the standard and very mild camshaft. That spec of head and induction/exhaust system really needs at least an MG Metro/Kent 266 or similar to release the potential of the head and induction/ex. systems.

The offset rockers will help a bit and if asked to guess I would think around 80 to 83-ish bhp with some increase in mid-range torque.

Thanks for the reply’s. Working it out the old head had 23cc and about 9.6 and the new head has 21.4cc with about 10.1 compression

Would it be worth the time and effect removing the engine for a cam change ? Looking at the minispares evolution cam. Would I get into the 90bhp range with this ? My main focus is the torque.

Doubt you will get 90bhp. to be honest your current spec is doing well to reach the figure it is now. I think a cam change definitely makes the A series more lively though. Gi for something where it gives you the most useable power. The 266 cam is excellent for this but I have heard that people are getting good results from the evo 1 cam from minispares.

Have fitted a 1380 MiniSpares short motor with the EVO1 cam and the MSE4 head to a Midas. Nice exhaust note. Behaves well goes well and does not need the high lift rockers.
