Can I assume that if my Mini was originally fitted with Rover late model Minilite lookalikes then the steel spare would take the same wheel nuts? (the ones with the covers that are a stupid size)

Yes, that's how my MPI was. Remember fitting the spare on more than one occasion.

Thanks for that, I've been running the Minispares ST wheels with the parallel shank nuts and hadn't until now considered what I'd do if I needed to use the spare! I should probably throw some of the old nuts in the boot.

Yeah, I did the same when I put my 10's on. Minilite S offset replicas with parallel nuts, but still carrying the old 12" steel spare. I just put 4 of the old nuts in a pouch, tie-wrapped to the spare. I'll have a proper 10" spare matching wheel when it eventually gets back on the road.
