Continuing with the refurbishing of my rear end (the Mini's actually) I plan to fit a boot board. Looking at the bracket assemblies there appears to be two main choices ...

Newton Commercial (£105): https://newtoncomm.c...loons-1980-2000

Minispares (£35): http://www.minispare...|Back to search

Newton Commercial seem to be the considered best go-to for interior trim but their kit is 3x the price of the Minispares version, has anyone any experience with either? Or even both!

There’s only one manufacturer of boot board brackets so I’d say Newton Commercial are just hoping no one will compare prices.

I bought the brackets from Mini Spares and cut my own boot board from ply and covered it in acoustic carpet for my old car. It looked every bit as good and cost significantly less.

I like Tupers idea,  I have done more or less the same myself on previous classics where there was no boot board

If you are a bit handy then you could always fabricate your own design, as long as it does the job and looks tidy,  job done

The picture isn’t great but there is one here of my boot setup.

The boot board was painted black on the underside and had acoustic carpet on the top and wrapped over the edges by about 30mm.
I also carpeted the boot side of the bulkhead, inner wheel arch and LH quarter. It was far more spacious than those awful ply lining kits but could have done with a courtesy light.

That's really good. What is acoustic carpet though?

It’s the type of carpet used to cover subwoofer enclosures and other audio stuff. It works well for covering edges and curves because you can stretch and form it easily.

If you check eBay you can normally buy lengths off a roll quite cheap.

Boot board and brackets ready to fit, now I just need to determine the exact position of the brackets. Is there a guide to the "standard" position or are they riveted in pretty randomly in each car?

There’s a pic and some measurements over on the MK1 forum.
