I have noticed that my newly acquired 1990 Cooper as one rear wheel about 18mm further inside the wheel arch than the other. One side you can get you hand in behind and the other you can't. I have had the wheels off shortly after I bought it and put new 165 tyres on with 3mm spacer both sides but it's clear to see. It drives fine and there doesn't appear to be any twisting in the shell or evidence of accident damage at all, is this good old Rover, or a dodgy radius arm or something perhaps?

As above sounds like bent radius arm, arm mounts or bearing gone. I had similar, caused the tyre to rub on the inside as I cornered right. Mine was caused by all three!

Could also be bent or poorly mounted subframe. Some of the aftermarket one are poor quality

Is the front of the subframe parallel to the healboard?

Is there a spacer drum brake fitted on both sides. If its driving fine and no noticable tyre ware its unlikly to be a bent radius arm. Does the camber look the same on both sides?

My first thought was one side without a spacer drum and one with.

Could also be that the wheels have different offsets, check the markings on the wheels to make sure.

Im pretty sure both sides looked the same when I had the wheels off, and I forgot to mention I added a 3mm spacers each side when fitting the new 165s, as per forum members suggestions. Camber looks good and I had it tracked recently too. I will double check wheel offset too.
