Sorry guys, no more holes today... :whistling: Some work done on the gearbox. After deep cleaning, new roller bearings are fitted, with a straight cut gear set from Minispares (clubman type) :

Also fitted a central oil pipe and a baffle tray :

Now I have to choose the correct final drive...3.65, 3.76?... -_-

Body's back from sandblasting. Here are some pics from the sandblaster :

Once taken home, I have put on the bare metal some phosphoric acid that allows me to work on the body with no primer on it.

Started to bolt on some parts, in order to see what modifications are needed.

Here are some protoype seats brackets. final products will be made once I'm happy with the result (don't worry, I will make some more holes on it!) :

I've made some small plates to close rear of the inner sills, where companion boxes are originally located :

Also made a small bracket that will sits under the bonnet, to support fuel pump inertia switch :

And started to make 2 rear fiberglass bonnet brackets. They look huge on the pics, so I think that I will make 2 new ones, smaller :

Some bodywork done on the front end, as I needed some clearance for the big ITG foam air filter :

Seems that I will need some serious wheel arches!!

img_9617.jpg

So, started to fit the arches with rivnuts :

Here is how it looks (Group 5 wide) :

And, as I needed a spare wheel, I asked a friend to make one for me :

Nice work! The gear shift mount brackets are very neat.
Couple of questions though...

Doesn’t drilling holes in the fan shroud compromise the duct effect?

What a different pattern to the centre of the spare wheel?

Nice touch with the fitting of the arches, should be very secure (probably better than bonding and certainly more serviceable).

Thx! Love the gear shift mount brackets too ;-)

Can't tell you if drilling holes in the fan shroud can affect the duct effect. I have seen this in a lot of race Mini's and loved the "lightweight touch" it gives to the engine ebay... As I have fitted an electrical aux. fan to the inner wing, I'm not so worry about this.

The spare wheel is different because a friend of mine designed and made it for me. You can even see on the second photo that he was kind enough to put my name on the wheel (laser engraved). This friend (FS engineering) also made the gear shift mount brackets.

Rivnuts are very practicals as they allow easy and multiple mount / dismount! Also fitted rivnuts to the front grill, front lights bowls, etc.

Thx for your comment! Actually... I'm a lawyer, but I'd love to work in a fabrication shop... or in a car body shop!
