Hi Guys,
Not really been up to much on the mini over the past 6 weeks, the misses has taken advantage of my work been delayed, and me been sat at home, she got me busy again renovating the living room.

Now that the living room is now finished, it's given me more time to get into the garage and crack on with my mini.
I've always had the mark one cooper grille and moustache on my car, until I was looking through Chris 1992 build thread of his cracking mini. Sorry Chris 1992, but a like your grille so much, that I've decided to copy it.
I ordered the van panel from Minispares, and set about altering it so it would fit into the grille opening.

Once I was happy with the fitment, I got back to fitting the front and rear subframes, as they have been sat on the garage floor collecting dust for the past 6 weeks.

Started of with the rear, it didn't go straight on, as there was a few problems with alignment which had to be corrected to get the back mounts to line up to the holes on the bodywork, this was first rear subframe to be fitted to the car, as it was running an axle beam beforehand. Measured down the line of the sills and the drivers side was 2mm longer than the passenger side, a quick cut of the welds, and altered it, then welded back up, a bit of a pain as the car has already been painted, thankfully nothing that can't be corrected.

Thankfully the front went on without any drama's. Going to make up a small bracket to fit the brake line joining pieces to where the PWDA used to sit. Decided to bin it as it has given me a lot of problems in the past, and keep the brakes as simple as possible.

Cheers Paul.

Evening, well where do I start. A couple of days ago I decided to carry out a compression test on my engine after getting her filled with oil. A few weeks ago I bought a new Clarke compression tester from a well known tool supplier and thought nothing of it, so , back to what happened, as I said I filled up the sump and primed the pump, up came the oil pressure at around 90psi, so I was happy I was getting oil up to the cylinder head, and I thought I would just carry out a compression test. The first test didn't go well, I couldn't get the pressure above 114psi, and I thought f**k. So I double checked compression ratio, with a few of the online calculators, and it was very close to what I'd worked out.
The next thing was to check the valve timing, encase I had any leaks from any of the valves, but after a few checks, I decided to rule that out, because when I built the head the compression chambers were filled with paraffin over night with no leaks. I was getting myself setup to carry out pressure test of the chambers, but I decided to contact Specialist components, but John wasn't available to speak too (bugger)
Well, after some cursing, I went upto my mates to borrow his tester as the gauge on the one I'd bought wouldn't return to zero, well, thank god I did, screwed on his tester and up came the pressure to 194psi on number one cylinder, what a relief!!, turns out the Clarkes one was completely gash, so I tested all the cylinders and the lowest was 186psi, so within the required 10%, so I've purchased a new Laser Tools one from Halfords, the same as my mates, just to double check the readings(maybe it's belts and braces) but I need to be confident they are correct before the engine goes into the car.

Cheers, Paul.

Evening, a little more done today, started to alter the bucket seat subframes which I made a few years ago, had to cut 40mm of the front legs to get the right seat angle, will probably spray them black.

Also, I didn't like the colour of the fan, so I stripped of the powder coating, and sprayed it red.

Tomorrow, I'm going to try and alter the throttle linkage, as this has caused a few issues on other builds, and make a new back plate for my ITG filter.

Cheers, Paul.

Nice project!!

Think you can't wait to listen to its music ;)

A question tough: why do you mount a metal fan? It's heavier than the plastic one and will take some power from the engine... Ok with the 16v you have plenty of hp, but even then...

Gilles

Hi Gilles, the reason I moved to a metal fan was a few years back I had one disintegrate on me at a rolling road session, puncturing my rad and been very costly, so it's belts and braces I suppose. I can't really see it zapping much hp.

Cheers Paul.

Hi guys, spent this afternoon in the garage fettling with the throttle linkage on the throttle bodies. I had made a bracket for this a few years back, but decided to swap to the K1200 bell mouths to try and bring the filter back plate back 20mm, so I can fit a bigger ITG sausage filter.
Made a KAD template and cut the steel out and filed them to fit.

Welded, tidied up and sprayed.

Attached onto the throttle bodies. Going to have to make up a new bracket for the throttle cable.

Made a start on the bell mouths, they are slightly bigger than the throttle bodies I have, so cut some 1mm aluminium, will drill holes for the grub screws to pass through, and bond them in tomorrow. Also tomorrow, I will template and cut out a new filter back plate, and spray it red.

Cheers Paul.

Hi All, a wee bit of fabrication this afternoon, re-made the filter back plate to suit the K1200 bell mouth's. Will spray it red tomorrow.

Cheers Paul.

Brilliant looking project mate! The grille will look awesome  ;D

I've just had a complete engine built for me by Specialist Components, so as a word of advice, if you can't get hold of John (he tends to reply more on Facebook messenger), ring up their landline and ask for Jack, (he usually picks up anyway). He is very knowledgeable and has been a great help for my build

Cheers Chris, your car looks awesome, love all the little touches you've made.

John actually did reply to me, unfortunately it went into my spam folder, so I didn't pick it up as soon as I could have.....anyway things are pretty much sorted now.
If you have any questions about the TwinCam build, don't hesitate to ask, I will try to answer them, if not, there is a few other guys on here with the same engine build, who would be able to help.

Paul.

Thanks Paul, much appreciated! :proud:  Glad to hear you're all sorted now.

I am actually having a small issue getting it running at the moment, as I have no spark at all, but the ECU is getting power as it's triggering the fuel pump. I'm waiting until I can borrow a laptop so I can test the ECU outputs (or something along those lines), but did you by any chance have this issue?

Hi Chris, I haven't got that far with my build yet, but if you speak to Simon at SCS-delta.co.uk, he is the boy who developed the Typhoon/Delta ECU's for SC. If you've got TeamViewer on your Laptop, and a good WiFi connection in your garage, Simon is very helpful, and he should find your problem.

Great! Cheers Paul, I'll see how I get on and if I end up at a dead end then I'll give him a bell

Hi guys, spent 6 hours today making this Japenese style rear view mirror support, made from some 5mm stainless rod with a 5mm bolt welded onto the end, I was going to thread it but my die's weren't up to the job, and some 2.5mm stainless plate.

Also finished of the filter back plate with a coat of red.

Paul.
