I picked up a Water Temperature Sensor from MiniMine yesterday at Castle Combe, asked for a 1275 A+ Water Temperature Switch.

When I got home and compared it to the one from the Metro Engine that I am rebuilding it looks slightly longer and the nut section is deeper?

That's a mini one you've bought, the metro one iirc is different, you might be able to return the new item for either a replacement or refund.

Have you tried it (gently) in the head?

Sorry didn't see these replies (forgot to click follow). It's an A+ Engine so why is the Mini one different to a Metro one?

The water temp gauge is the standard one found in the twin instrument cluster Mk4 1982 HLE 1000.

It looks fine to me, they seat on the taper at the inboard end of the threads, so put those level and you'll see where it'll be shorter of longer.

the Metro gauge IIRC requires a different input to the Mini one. though the fitting is the same the sender can also look different from different makers.

Sorry still slightly confused, I will be fitting a Metro A+ 1275 into a 1982 998 HLE Mini, the instrument cluster is a Mini one. Do I need different senders for Oil Pressure and Water Temperature, or will the Mini ones fit and work in the Metro A+ block - surely the engine is the same?

everything needs to suit the dials. the engine is no different but the senders were. forget it is from a Metro. it is just an A+ and you need to fit mini bits.

They aren't as picky as you think. I've got a Metro A+ 1275 with the original sender, a voltage regulator on the back of a centre binnacle and a temp. gauge from a random Rover.

There aren't that many options, most manufacturers used the same parts.

Compare the ohm readings at different temps and go from there.
