So I am installing some gauges in my 88 Mini and I need to ground the light bulbs... Where can I take a ground behind the dash so I don't damage anything important?

I drilled a hole into the metal shelf of the dash panel. somewhere it couldnt be seen. then i nice self taping screw or nut/bolt.

Those black wires usually end in an earth point somewhere behind the dash .. at least on all the classics I've worked on they have

I used the steel bracket that supports the clocks as an earth for my power outlet sockets.
