What I usually do is drive the car till it dies, then immediately open the gas cap, if theres pressure inside you will hear it, does the car start straight away after this?

The remedy here being the cap is non vented or the vent hole is blocked.

Hope this helps

Cal

Don't be fixed on the idea it must be fuel because the choke has an effect. A faster flywheel and less inlet vacuum to pull against will help overcome any loss of engine power. A richer mixture can also help ignition from a poor spark or compensate for an air leak downstream of the jet.

If it was a fuel supply issue, the choke would only have a short lived effect as the float chamber empties faster.

Have a look at the spark plug colour immediately after it starts playing up and give the ignition the once over. You don't need the engine to be running, like you do to set up the fuelling and without correct ignition performance you'll never manage to test &  adjust the fuelling properly.

I was going to take it for a drive, but the carb needle was stuck, and a small pool of gas poured out.  Good thing the new part is on its way.

As I was letting the car warm up, a LOT of white smoke was coming out of the exhaust.  White with a little tint of blue in the light.  Thoughts on the problems behind that?

Thanks guys,

Ryan

I'll check this out over the weekend, when I can install the carb needle! Thanks!

Also -- I installed new spark plugs and wires over summer.  I gapped the plugs, too.  But I'll take a look and a few pictures.

Usually....

White smoke = burning water

Blue smoke = burning oil

Check if you are losing either

Everything electrical's brand new (or a year old by now).

Did you change the condenser and/or rotor arm? A lot of the new items are very poor quality and prone to early failure.

Real close guess! It turned out to be a wire to the rotor arm.  I cut it out, connected a new wire, and it was up and running!  Thanks!

Curious if you mean it was a bad wire to the points?
