94 Mayfair Drivers Side Wheel Sat Fwd And Fouling Arch?

I sorted this - (1) got the car professionally 4 wheel tracked and (2) Cut a bit from the wheel arch using the dremell to stop the wheel fouling on full lock - thanks for advise

Hi - I'm new to mini ownership  - I have just acquired a brilliant 1994 Mini Mayfair and have put new wheels and tyres on based on Mini Sport advice : 5.0 x 12 Superlights with 165/60 ZE914 Falken Tyres. These should fit without mods.

 

The drivers side wheel looks to be sitting quite a lot further forward in the arch and catches on the wheel arch well before full lock.

 

It has had new wings / front valance at some stage.

 

Q: what can I do / look at to get the wheel moved back in the arch ? 

 

Guessing first thing is to check the tie rod's not bent?

you need to cut the wing to suit the wheels you have been provided with. what was the wheel ET?

 

this is after having checked for the obvious issues. like you mention.

So is it normal to have one wheel sitting further fwd in the arches on one side tho?

Nope but have you actually measured it? It could just be the wing fitting.

This was a problem on later Minis due to worn production tooling over the years, the factory actually added spacers to the front panel fixings to improve clearances on whichever side was necessary, Minispares sell the spacer shims required. Sometimes they are left out when new panels are fitted or when new wider wheels show up the original clearance problem on full steering lock.

 

PACKING SPACER BETWEEN FRONT PANEL AND SUBFRAME

"Fitted to rubber mounted subframes from 1976 on this packing piece goes between the front panel and the subframe mounting points. You might be surprised how many of these were fitted to your car when it came out the factory. When replacing the front panel or mountings you should repack them accordingly. They are open end shaped to slide in over the bolt."

No, not really.

Check your tie rods and bushes as well. The 1996 I just bought was fouling the driver's side front wheel on lock.
This is why.. New tie rod alongside for comparison.

Thanks all for the advice - the local garage sorted this, it was a bent tie bar. They fitted a pair of new heavy duty adjustable tie bars I got from Mini Spares and itseems ok now.
