I am reluctantly putting up for sale my red 1990 RSP Cooper. It is in very good condition overall as well as being in great mechanical shape having recently had the gearbox reconditioned by John at Guessworks, and fitted with an AC Dodd reconditioned carburettor and a new wiring loom, with all servicing and repair over the past few years performed by the very capable hands of Andy at ML Motorsport. The car has covered a mere 74000 miles and drives superbly. I have owned it for over 10 years and in that time it has been shamelessly reliable on short runs as well as long motorway runs without skipping a beat. In fact, in all that time it has only broken down and not got me home ONCE – and that was just due to a failed thermostat (which has of course since been replaced).

The bodywork is generally in good condition, having had a considerable amount of repair (always with heritage panels) throughout my ownership - but being a Mini of course there are a few places which will need attention at some point, although not necessarily immediately. The worst area is the rear valance seam behind the bumper although it’s by no means terrible. There is also a little bubbling on the bonnet, under the rear window and on the passenger door. It will probably also need a driver sill repair at some point (the passenger sill was replaced about 4 years ago – NOT with an oversill!!) but other than that, it’s pretty clean and solid and looks great, including having 4 fully-refurbished RSP alloys that look superb and are wearing good Yokohamas. Some of the interior could use a little tidying, but having said that, it has good, clean recently replaced (genuine Newton Commercial) carpets, good un-ripped original RSP part-leather seats, and also benefits from a smart black wooden dash complete with front Pioneer speakers and a Pioneer head unit.

The car is located near Wimbledon in South West London and is MOT’d until 18th June 2020 (the only advisories were for slight play in the wheel bearings which have since both been replaced) and comes with stacks of paperwork and invoices. I’ll also throw in a big box of Mini World magazines! Being an RSP it is a highly collectable Mini, whilst at the same time being very usable. It is currently valued by my insurance company for £7000, but in acknowledgement of the little bit of bodywork it needs, I’m looking for offers in the region of £6000. RSPs don’t come up often, and when they do they tend to be either astronomically priced collector’s pieces, or barely rolling wrecks, so it’s a great opportunity to pick one up in a very smart and respectable condition that is usable as a daily driver for a reasonable price! I’ll be very sorry to see my Mini go, but work and life commitments mean that I simply don’t have time to give it the care and attention it deserves anymore – but at the same time I’m not desperate to sell, so I’m not going to entertain any silly offers – I know what good RSPs are worth!
