Fresh young snowflakes become hard old icebergs, although I think that I was probably a hailstone

Whilst suggesting someone is “buggering” up their car which they’ve owned for 20 years by modifying it is a bit off, it was DeadSquare telling a newbie member (despite it being their first post and asking the responses to be gentle) that he didn’t deserve to even own the car that was particularly rude and arrogant. But it seems to be his way sadly. Not the friendly or helpful welcome Dave was hoping for I’d imagine.

Anyway, opinions are opinions, and all deserve to air theirs when invited to do so, but could have been done in a better way.

Anyway, moving on, thankfully people did mod their minis back in the 60’s otherwise the likes of Downton, Alexander, Speedwell, Arden, Motolita, Aquaplane, Longman, Les Leston etc etc wouldn’t have existed. It would be a boring world if we were all the same.

Shame you didn’t hold onto your Sooper Sid, the first real factory modded mini and rarer then rare now. Selling is the one mod you definitely can’t undo very easily.

I’m 48 years old by the way and owned minis since 1988. Currently own 2 x mk1s and a mk3.

I’d rather see a mk1 being mod’d to its owners taste and it being used and enjoyed rather than it sitting rotting away.

Morning All.

“Thank you” to everyone for “your” opinions.

My post from last week, I wanted to keep it short and not bombard you all on my first post and try to show some manners and respect.

ME….

From an early age I have had a passion for anything that moves with petrol. I’m 51 in March of next year, leaving school at 16 and going to work in a small sheet metal and fabrication shop. The guy who owned the company restored classic cars as a side-line to his business as this was his real passion. He gave me my now stolen 1275GT for nothing, it was sitting rusting away in his yard, open the passengers door, it fell off it was that badly rotten – No engine, 10 inch discs up front…. Oh and no floor. At 16, I never understood why he wanted it to be my first car…. Being now 50, I totally get it. It taught me car welding, panel beating, painting, and engine building. And now, the “HUGE” passion I now have for anything classic car wise. I used to work for him on Saturdays for “FREE” and in return he let me totally restore the car from the ground up teaching me along the way. We became very good friends and the car was very special to me as he died later on.

I am very fortunate to own several cars and being more than capable of working on them. One I have is a 1952 Split screen Morris Minor – Granddad bought new in 52 – gave it to my dad – my dad gave it to me. My 8 year old daughter’s middle name is Cooper for obvious reasons and my 4 year old son is named after the Jensen Interceptor.

Back to my 1960 Mini.

My car is March 1960, My 8 year old daughter has asked can she have the Mini as her first car…. We said we would restore her as joint effort working on her together with some upgrades. These would be bolt on/off upgrades. I have collected various parts for the car over the years, S brakes/discs for up front and a Morris 1300GT engine, I even have a set of original Paddy Hopkirk Alpine seats for the front. I need to replace the A panels as these are the original ones and repaint the whole car – keeping the original colour of clipper blue. I have even got the original glass washer bottle in the engine bay (now that bottle is rare)…

“IF”, I ever decided to do the discs and engine conversion, I would do a complete rebuild of the matching numbers engine. Complete rebuild of the single leading shoes/hubs on the front end. Keeping the interior and in fact keeping all the original items take from the car safe. So if at a later date my daughter wanted to return her back to stock, she could do so.

So my reason for joining the Mini Forum?

I joined the Forum to reach out to people in the know for help and advice and to make sure I did things correctly .

If I was going to do a 4 inch roof chop and “Z” car the old girl, I get the…… lets call them “passionate” comments, but im not and wasn’t even given the chance to even be asked what I was going to do.

Welcome to the forum!

Being rude is a worldwide internet cancer, so don't worry about it.

I find the forum extremely convenient. It seems everything has been made before by someone on here. Just ask any question in the right section and you'll likely have a good answer.

I even have a set of original Paddy Hopkirk Alpine seats

I had to google what these looked like and they look really cool! Sounds like some nice mods for the Mini.

easily as desirable as a standard version.  i mean look at it oooopppphhhh lol

As others have said, it's your car and you can do what you like with it. I bought in a mk1 earlier in the year and posted it up saying what my plans for it were, to say I was surprised at some of the comments was an understatement.
Good luck with the mods
