From The little bit of flowbench testing I did the K+N cone filter offered virtually no restriction to airflow at all. The same can’t be said about the other “filter” I tested alongside it.

Great work Phil (as per).

It's always good to see some actual evidence rather than just an opinion.

David Vizard was also a big advocate of K&N filters (and did a lot of testing on them) which is also a huge endorsement as far as I'm concerned.

Indeed. If you read Calvers articles he refers to this.
I was merely commenting on the fact that some people assumed they were restricted regarding airflow, which isn’t what I found at all.

OK picking up on this again.

I am looking for the most efficient Air Filtraton system for the 1310 that I am building.

I have read Kieth Calvers excellent article on Air Filtration where he proves that the standard Air Box with a K&N fitted, with a few additional holes drilled in it, works better that a K&N in a Cone Filter.

However in his summary he states that this was done on a Small Bore unit and suggests that Large Bore Engines (such as my 1310) may benefit from a Pancake Filter.

Kieth said:

"I would also state here that this is not necessarily the case with the large bore engine units. I have had reports of gains of up to 6bhp when using a pancake (not cone) type K&N over the standard filter case set-up from a reliable source. Unfortunately I do not know if that is the standard filter case with standard filter, or with K&N element and other suitable mods. That'll be another test then…"

To that end is anyone aware of any reliable testing on a 1275 - 1310 using a standard Air Box, Modified Air Box with K&N, Cone + K&N and Pancake + K&N.

We could do with a sticky on this in the FAQ.
