"Long referred to as the ultimate, classic and iconic van from the 1950s, the Morris J-type is making a triumphant comeback as the Morris JE. The new fully-electric Morris JE will utilise advanced battery technology with a lightweight platform. Combining classically-inspired design with the heritage of the original J-type, the new JE will be built using beautiful British craftsmanship."

I assume they've done their research but how many units do they expect to sell?  Don't get me wrong, I love these vans, they were still delivering round here when I was a nipper.

Is this going to end up similar to those super expensive Mini's that are being knocked out??

A bunch of un-answered questions over quite how legal the end product is?

As far as I’m aware these are completely new vehicles not “rebuilt” cars like the David Brown Minis.

I’d imagine the company will be setup as a small automotive manufacturer like Aerial or Caterham with whatever regs are required for commercial vehicles.

I’m sure these would be a massive hit with flash florists and boutiques that want an eco delivery vehicle that looks more interesting than a hybrid transit.

All seems abit odd.

The company was only setup recently, clearly has nothing to do with the original company and/or vans but lists a load of historic stuff on the website.

From looking at the directors it's a Chinese venture?

The director is Dr Qu Li head of China Ventures Ltd

http://www.chinavent...resltd.com/     It appears she bought out LDV Vans in 2016.

Perhaps they also bought the rights to Morris from SAIC at the same time?

Although the vans are still called LDV Maxus so I'm not sure if all of LDV has been bought out or just the European business?

It's quite strange as a few of the companies seem to be operating out of a small industrial unit outside of Evesham.

The LDV website is abit noddy in places as well, quite literally done in MS Paint:

Be good to buy one and convert to a petrol engine. I'll get shot down for that statement

AROnline:-
What’s under the skin of the JE?

"It’s a pure EV that Morris Commercial says will travel upto 200 miles on a full charge – although it hasn’t yet to be tested officially, as it’s still a running prototype. It uses a bespoke modular platform, with a ‘state-of-the-art’ lithium ion battery powertrain, all sourced from the UK, according to CEO and founder, Dr Qu Li."

Nope. Still on track.

or did you not see it on Guy Martins  electric episode.

or on the BBC travel show. It has been down in London this week while we continue with the release of data for tooling.

I saw that it’d been on a few tv progs, but also that production had been pushed back again. I expect they’ll blame covid, but I suppose it could still make production if the pre-orders are successful.

It will be in production.
