Hey folks, I'm the new custodian of a 73 Innocenti that appears to have had a rather serious engine upgrade. The car was restored in 1995 and there are pictures (Polaroids!) of the engine block with notes referring to it being a 1420cc "...waiting for a 544 cam." The restoration may have been carried out by Richard Miles - Tipton Garage and included a right hand drive conversion. So, my question is what oil should I use for this? I use 20w50 racing oil for my 78 however that is bone stock (awaiting a wake-up call).  Any suggestions are welcome! I really don't know much about the car as it will be delivered within the next 5 days or so.

Thanks in advance - great forum!

Hi fiercegaze - I am also a 73 Innocenti owner with a bored and stroked 1410 engine - I run Penn Grade 20W50, it has a little higher zinc content than VR1 -which is also perfectly fine. The key to any classic Mini engine's longevity is frequent oil changes - every 3K will help it live a long time. However, most classic Minis rarely get driven more than 1000 miles a year anymore....

If you want a good classic forum in the US, go to Restoration Mini dot com and join us there....I can also put you in touch with some great classic owners on the east coast so you can get those cars out of the garage more often and put some miles on them!

Love to see some pics of your Inno!

Edit: Just happened to talk to John McGee this monring, sorry I missed you at CMU 60, I would have been happy to trade Inno info!

I didn't think you were allowed to only own one!  :-)
