Radford Cooper Spot Lights Wireing

Best Answer mk1leg , 01 November 2019 - 09:11 PM

make your own loom its not difficult using a 6RA Relay

myresto51.jpg

first find a suitable mount place and fix relay then run cables from relay along to front grille 1 earth(black) 1 power (red) If running spots and fogs then run another colour allow 500mm extra for cockups....lol you will also need a feed either from fuse box or a direct wire from control box this needs to be a substantial size as it the main power to relay, then run a wire from a switch or dip/main switch inside cockpit through a grommet to the relay see diagram

once you are happy with wires start from relay and apply tape just to hold wires together allowing for where wires shoot off to switches and feeds once this is done use proper loom tape and start taping one part at a time

Sorry retepknarf, I've just seen this post.

My 1963 Radford just seems to have extra wires added. In the 70s the lamps were replaced (by W&P) I think, so there's a complete jumble of different sizes & ages of wires.

The ones installed by Radford (I assume - maybe someone else can verify?) are braided cotton bound. I'll try to get a picture if you're interested.

Spotlamp runs from main full beam circuit & Fog from a switch on lower right dash rail (on the "Motorway" type dashboard - not checked if there's extra relays, or even a connection for the fog directly from fuse box or lighting circuit.

by the way - I love the detailing on your engine bay mk1leg - what paint did you use for the master cylinders / relays?

One day I intend to bind the wires with a fabric loom tape but there's a heap of jobs to do first......

Good luck!

MA
