has anyone had one of these working on their mini? Im looking at it for my mini to replace the dizzy or to run the advance out of it. I have a smd rework station and have done a bit of soldering, not sure weather to go for it or not.

thanks

I think I've seen someone with it on TMF.

I put my own Megajolt together and have tinkered a little bit with Arduino, I'd say go for it. There's usually masses of resources online for stuff like this

You'll want a crank sensor rigging up and Coil on Plug units I expect?

crank sensor yes,  not sure how to drive the coil bit yet, but a ford coil pack is looking best atm.

how much was the megajolt? the ones ive seen assembled are really dear for what they do. imho.,

Megajolt is defo outdated by stuff like this. I've just had a peek at Tuner Studio (speeduino's software) on Youtube and it's at another level. MJ uses Ford's EDIS to drive the coils. I don't know if Speeduino has built in coil drivers(I can see a few Mosfets on the board), but COP makes that redundant.

I see they offer coil packs / drivers for £30-35 on https://diy-efi.co.uk.

Of course you'll be tempted to go injection too if you get it up and running with the ignition.

well ive got another car, its a bmw compact, and its got a volvo b230 engine in it with the lh2.4 injection. Ive gone for microsquirt on that which also uses tuner studio. That software is very good, east to use and i understand how it works now. That is a massive plus point for the speeduino for me. With the microsquirt i had to use a ignition amp module from a escort i think it was to drive the wasted spark coil modules. Really good, really simple.

So worst case with the speeduino i have to buy a few little bits.

Itll be used to run the 998 i think with a garrett 1544 turbo. intersting times ahead!

I'm in the process of setting up for Speeduino, ignition only for now but EFI is where we're aiming eventually. It'll be running on Fiat Punto coils as wasted spark. We plugged the board in fur the first time last night actually. Hooked up to Tunerstudio we got the MAP sensor to show boost and vacuum - it was a woo hoo moment :-) We'll be attempting to get the TPS working today.

so ok, i talked to my RR guy today, i want him to set the car up, he isnt dear and if its £300+ i know the car is right and i cn do some miles in it.

said if  i want to go for speeduino then he will not tune the car. Because its something ive put together, he dosnt want to put the car on the rollers set it up and find out its not working right. He said that with my microsquirt on the bmw he had an idea what would be wrong with it, so could fix it if or at least phone someone there and then.

So, it maybe good but unless i spend on a wideband which is more of the RR cost and do it myself, forget it.

probably going to get another microsquirt, properly rate them for the money.

I'm not sure what wide-band you're thinking of for £300+, this is the one I've been using: https://www.efi-part...p?productID=204

Do you actually need the gauge or just the Wideband Sensor ?

personally i wouldnt run a turbo'd car without a wb anyway, its just too handy in case you get a fueling issue. Ive known a lot op people use the AEM with the gauge to good effect,

coil drive wise, there are logic level coils that dont need the coil drivers, one popular one is the chevy Yukon LS2 coils but they normally come in a set of 8 oh they are usually individual coils too rather than wasted spark so would mean adding a cam sensor.

I can see the point of the tuner, but to be honest a self build is not much different to a self install really

Beats me why an engine tuner would be reluctant to broaden their hardware knowledge when the opportunity arises. Don't  both Speeduino & Megasquirt run Tunerstudio anyway, he probably wouldn't even notice a difference.

Seems 'duino will run narrowband but needs a controller to run & translate wideband. Not that either have multiplugs to connect & control a carb  :P .

Speeduino is at a great pricepoint for ignition only, hard to justify Megasquirt for the same as far as I can tell.

Could be he has had a poor experience.12 years ago I asked a localish tuner to map my Megasquirt. He declined as in his experience as it was a cheap DIY system it was fitted to very poor cars very badly by inexperienced owners( he may have been more forthright)His time is costly, and he has no experience of your abilities.Just a thought.Steve..

yes that is it,, its a case of you soldered it together, if ti fails on him on the rollers, it could either damage the car and you would try to blame him, or not be working right, so he could not map the car. So how can he ask £300 from you for not even tuning anything when he could just book in someone with dta or something else and get on with the job.

I am getting a bit confused about it all now. I had in my mind the wideband and the controller was like "£250, but they arnt, they are £154 without the gauge, which i dont really want. So that with the speeduino £228... With the tuner studio, i can set the car up, im happy doing that, but ive not done the live mapping stuff, and am a bit worried about it.

I have also just noticed that 123dizzy thing, that does boost too! but again i dont know anything about it or how you would go about setting that up. Speeduino does look good again now

I managed to get myself a turbo plenum tonight and inlet manifold so its getting closer to making a start on the engine now.

AEM wideband with gauge and sensor is like £160 I think. Check ebay

I don't suppose you would need the gauge. Come to think of it, I don't really see why you'd need the WB at all for ignition only. Or am I missing something there?
