Hi Mini peoples.

Can any one give me advice please?

I am building myself a 1275 engine to replacer my current 998.

I have bought a 1275cc cylinder head which came from a Metro.

It does not have a hole for the water takeoff which goes to the car heating system.

The threaded bolt holes are in place and the 5/8" hole is blocked off with a slight recess but maybe solid to the casting rather than plugged.

First thoughts are, can i bore the hole out to make it a traditional mini setup?

How deep may the material be before i make it through to the water channel?

Are there any other setups that i can take with out the need for drilling?

Regards John

What Nick said, it's pretty thin, doesn't take long to drill through it.

As said just drill it, it may be an idea to use some water through the thermostat hole to remove the swarf

I don’t have one one mine as it’s a metro engine bored out to 1380. Heater hoses are routed from bypass hose on top of thermostat sandwich player and bypass off the bottom hose. After going through my carb manifold that is.

Thanks Guys for the replys.

Probably will end up drilling then.

May check out the Metro options if there are any at the Classic car show this weekend.

thanks John
