Many thanks for the interest in the topic and the replies guys.
The Bosch Blue seems very popular and one I'll try.
The Bosch blue that Swifty uses is supposed to be good
I run a resin filled one now with an external ballast, much stronger spark than any I’ve ever tried and is surviving the rigours of competition well.
This has me interested, but just presently, Swifty's web page is flagging up as being hacked (at least according to Firefox), but will look them up.
Our main stock of coils now are produced by the people that used to make them for Lucas before they went to China for their units. So our MSC105 is the equivalent to their DLB105
Thanks for that Simon. I'll like grab a couple of these and check them out.
Distributor Doctor usually sell good quality ignition components:-
Thanks and after I made my posting, they came to mind. Their stuff is always top shelf.
Aldon flamethrower?
I'll like get one of these - but for my desk !
From my big box of daft ideas - has anyone tried running half a wasted spark coilpack? You might get OEM quality with a spare coil thrown in. Where to stick the wasted spark though
Daft? No. I like out of the box thinking. I'll look in to the design of these Coil Packs, but off hand and from what I've brushed over with them, isn't the outputs of these just from each end of the one coil ? So, if we Earthed one end, and used the other, we'd be in business ? Any ideas and typical Primary Coil Resistances with these ?
My AC Delco coil has been making a spark jump 1/2" for over 40 years, but I suppose that's no help if you are buying a new one off the shelf now.
I have run some of these over the years and yes, highly reliable Coil, but finding these in this part of the world new these days is not an option.
I dont use the DLB105, I've had 2 of these coils fail on the same car. I usually use Intermotor rotor arms, dizzy caps and modules on the 65D dizzy, so try their coil if you can.
Im sure the team at Minispares will be able to work something out for shipping to you, yes it may mean a few days(weeks?) off the road whilst you wait on returns if needed, if I was in this situation I'd stock up in multiples so you always have spares as needed.
Cheers for your experience here Cal, maybe give those from Mini Spares a go next time?
I have in the past bought up loads from Mini Spares, their service is faultless and delivery generally quite good for me out here in the colonies (generally a week which ex-UK isn't bad) but I now keep at least a complete car (and then some) 'on the shelf' in spares so that delivery leads times won't be an issue, it's also why I haven't needed to buy from Mini Spares of late, but will soon be placing some orders.
