How are the inner wing and door post welded together? Every picture I can find has the inner A fitted already.

The flange of the inner wing that points towards the rear of the car if spot welded to the A-pillar in the first step from the A-panel.

The in the factory I think the inner wing and A-pillar/panel would have been welded together before the internal plate with the check strap mount that joins the A-pillar and inner wing was welded on.

Here is a pic of where mine is spotwelded, I found fitting outers then flitch panel made access to this ok with spot welder, I also removed the inner a post panel to gain access as I was also replacing that

on passenger side the flitch was wrong shape so I had to let some metal in so it could be spot welded as can be seen on this pic

then the inner a panel I had to plug weld as couldn’t gain access with the spot welder

welds were then ground flush before fitting wings etc.

hope this helps out a bit

if you want to spot weld inner a panels you would have to fit them to inner wing prior to fitting this to the car and I thought alignment would be difficult without a jig of some sort so this was best way I could manage it. The inner a panel plug welds are not noticeable whereas the outer a panel to inner wing ones are when the door is opened. Hope that makes sense.

DAZ1968. Thank you very much for the response. I figured but my panel does not fit the curve either.  The pictures helped out immensely.

I’ve the same issue as yourself with the large gap at the top, I’d planned on doing the same as Daz and adding in a section.
