How far does this insert in to the block? I started thinking it was meant to go in all the way but it was quite hard going. Then I dug the old one out and looking at the muck it does not look like it was fully inserted. Can anyone confirm?

Tapered threads, do not over tighten.
Tighten snugly, check for leaks and only tighten further if needed.
Check after a drive to look for any leaking.

I usually wrap twice round the thread with thin PTFE tape.
