i had heard that there was a male spline in the end of the column but never seen it.

 

so some pics of what happened over the weekend.

top end with lock slots aligned

if you have a lathe use it. and i would soak it for a few day before as they can be a real pain to get off.

Presume this was a column for the US market as it has a center, whereas UK ones came with a centre?:)
