There was a technical drawing of the gearbox in the Haynes manual years ago, now it dismisses the 'box as a bit too tech for the DIY mechanic. Has anybody got a copy of the tech drawing they could send me? I'm trying to get my head around no drive and a horrible clonking noise from the 'box.

Is this what you're looking for?
This is the earlier remote change box but the drive line's the same as a rod change.

Which is why you need to get the old workshop manual not the current toilet paper version.

If you've got horrible noises and no drive, more than likely it'll be the final drive or possibly the drop gears.

Regardless, the engine needs to come out and the gearbox taken off. I think it will be fairly self evident from there.

The engine is out because I suspected the clutch had sheared.

Yes, drop gears are a logical choice. It will be obvious once I take off the flywheel housing. There's no noise when turning a road wheel in neutral but it's there in every gear.

Is drop gear failure a known issue?

That's the sort of thing, thanks.

I got my old Haynes manual from Amazon second hand for 50p + postage and it was mint, it's the one up to 78 which is a great edition. I saw the same book in worse condition for 40 quid at a show a few weeks later, laughed my head off. They're still around in good condition for good prices a quick search on ebay comes up with this https://www.ebay.nl/...sYAAOSwRzZcTG26

Good luck!
