Can anyone advise on the temperature sender unit for this housing please, I'm converting from SPI to carb and have looked for ages for a housing with sender hole. I have looked on Minispares and Minisport. This is allegedly from an MG metro engine ? tried Google but all come up with the original I need this to work with a Cooper carb loom I have to convert. I think this is a 10mm hole

Look for a 12A408 Thermostat Housing. They did fit them on some Morris Minors and some MG Models. They seem a little thin on the ground in the UK ?? but quite readily available in these parts;-

These take the stock Mini Temp sender.

It will indeed, I'd suggest using some PTFE tape or grease on the threads, purely to aid getting the sender out if you need to, I agree it may not be a good location for any grease or oily material but I'd much rather the sender came out ok as snap in place.

Hope this helps

I'm guessing you know that this is for the temperature switch for the electric fan and not for the temp gauge.

I thought could you use the temperature sender unit for the temp gauge, doesn't the electric fan work off the temp sender unit on the bottom of the radiator ??

Or if not have a manual switch for the electric fan ??

Thanks for any input in advance ;D

The fan does indeed work off the bottom radiator switch, but you can bypass and just have a switch in the cab

Can't you use the normal position in the head for the gauge sender.

The fan switch on the Metro/carb Cooper is in the sandwich plate, I guess yours is different being an SPI set up. I broke my temperature  switch so ended up fitting a manual switch as the sandwich plate ones are a bit expensive - and I very rarely need the fan anyway.

SPI heads are not drilled for the normal sender position below the housing, the engine has just returned recently from keith Calver and set up ready to go never thought at the time about going centre clock and binacle, so I potentially I could of asked Keith at the time, I certainly don't want to attempt to drill and tap myself in fear of getting swarf in the water ways and galleries.

Thread bump... Do you know if the Morris Minor equivalent used a different thread? Seen some posts online which state 3/8 BSP?
