Hi guys,

As the title says, I'm new to the forum and a proud new owner of my Rover Mini. Been a long time coming but finally made the decision in purchasing. I got it in August and its been a rather bumpy ride so far....

Upon delivery the exhaust had to be taken off because it couldn't get on the trailer. So the first task once it was on the ground was to get this reconnected. The previous owner had told me that the bracket holding the exhaust on had broken and he was going to have it fixed... he didn't so upon investigating I had to replace the exhaust manifold. See photo for the damage.

For the record I have no mechanical background at all... just watch a lot of videos and read manual's

The guys at Huddersfield Spares where excellent and patient with me trying to explain what parts I needed.

I worked my way through the Haynes manual on how to remove the air intake, throttle body... so got them fitted along with a new Lambda sensor and some soldering as the wiring at the back of the throttle body had burnt through (sorry no photos)

Got it put back together and I was quite chuffed with my self! Having only every changed brake pads in the past.

Then decided to do a service on the car... air filter, new oil, oil filter, coolant. The coolant was so hard to do - such tight space to get the bottom hose off to drain.

Then I replaced the fillet insert on the rear window. My fingers and thumbs where bleeding after that.

Moving onto the interior.... stripped everything out to see if there where any rust patches or holes that needed to be sorted out. Surprisingly it's solid apart from a piece under the rear seat which I got fixed.

New sound proofing/underlay, new carpets fitted.

Cleaned all the seats and added some fabric dye to restore some of the faded colour. I was pleased with it, turned out alright.

Onto the exterior now as there are some surface rust patches... but might wait until the warmer weather to tackle those.

I have a fuel burning problem in the fact that its running rather rich so if you have any ideas please let me know what to trouble shoot.

Also the fuel gauge isn't working. I've replaced the sender unit... need to check if I bought the right one for the spi...

Checked the earth - put paper clip between both wires and yes the gauge does go up.

Tried a different earth - temporary cable from the sender unit to the mounting point where the battery is earthed from and that didnt work either.

Next thing to try is to remove the sender unit and try it outside of the tank.

I did buy this with the intention to do work on it and learn...

Looking forward for the years ahead.

Nothing like working on a Mini to learn how to work on a MIni, that's how many of us learned.

If you haven't got one this parts catalogue will help you identify parts and know what to ask for, it has broken down diagrams with just about every part shown along with part numbers.
