I'm sorting my engine out
Timing gears etc
My question is does the crankshaft pulley wear out or can I still use mine.
it's a 998cc engine 1989

inspect it  especially around the key way and on the sealing surface. and if it has a damper part check the rubber condition and the timing mark alignment.

Also check the V section in it. These do wear if it was run with a poorly adjusted or worn belt.

 

Check that the faces of the V are flat and offer a new belt up to it but bend it back so you can check that it's not bottoming out in the V as well. You want to see at least a 2 mm gap here and preferably 3mm or more.
